Duelist Stats from the Gallagher Stadium “Amateur Kart” Game

Team events are a good way to build up a lot of characters with varied histories quickly. Once a duelist has played in five or six matches, he’s liable to be a fairly interesting “ace” type and own some wheels if he was any good.

Below you can see that I’ve got a couple of characters that own both a Killer Kart and an Amateur Kart in varying conditions. If they can pick up a half decent car in the next couple of duels– maybe a Pisces or a Joseph Special– they could probably afford to fix it up to get a pretty rad custom job suitable for miscellaneous courier jobs and so forth. (Driving a car that is armed with weapons you got to strip from your own kills is one of the special joys of the old school CAR WARS rags-to-riches campaign.) Also of note, the character that died was actually worse than a starting 30-point character– no loss there.

(Note that most of these characters began their careers in games sessions we played back in 2007– including the very first 2029 campaign game.)

Lexus Androwksi now has three Amateur Karts. One in good shape and the other two a little beat up. He’ll probably either cash them out, or cobble together something resembling an MML Stinger. Given how terrible MML’s are, he’ll probably just cash out.

Bubby Teath has an Amateur Kart in decent shape and $925 from liquidating a previously salvaged Killer Kart. He too will probably cash out.

I had this idea that duelists might strip the weapons from their *kills* and then cash out the rest of their wrecks, especially the ones for cars that they just managed to drive out of amateur night. Then… when they finally land a mid-sized car, retrofit on those weapons somehow to end up with an individualized car. Maybe it’s a tradition in some circles. So Dutch would hold onto his MG, but The Gimp would hold onto his MML. Maybe there’s some stigma attached to merely surviving an Amateur event and not actually “killing” people.

“And besides, it ‘as sentimental value…!”

It would surely be much less expensive to strip weapons for later than to buy them, even with retro-fitting costs.

Speaking of which, the way I would handle that is that changes from an original design cost 10% more. Replacing a destroyed MG with another MG costs nothing extra (instalation is part of the base price). But replacing an MG with an MML would cost 10% of the MML cost. The logic being that even though they are both 1 space, they aren’t literally the same shape, configuration, etc.

Paying someone to install an MG into a vacant MG slot would also cost 10% (of the MG cost). Not for retrofitting, but just for the cost of doing it. One could apply some kind of generic hourly Mehcanic rate. But I think the 10% would be easier to calculate, and in the long run probably cost about the same.
